Kentucky's Plethora of License Plates

I see our Governor Beshear has announced yet another new type of license plates, this time to "honor" "small business in KY  New license plate boasts small business

I did a quick count on the state's website and counted at least 83 (yes, eighty-three) special plates which one can order in Kentucky.

I think we should go back to the original purposes of license plates: 1) to ensure taxes are paid on the vehicle and 2) to allow law enforcement to easily identify a vehicle. A state should have ONE type of license plate to serve these purposes.

For those with big egos and/or plenty of disposable income who want specialty or vanity plates, I propose that you should be allowed to have that on the front of your vehicle, but the rear plate is going to be standard for everyone.
